ELLSWORTH

Marion Saunders Carter, 86, died Nov. 13, 1999, at an Ellsworth hospital. She was born in Blue Hill, May 8, 1913, the daughter of the late Laurence H. and Viola (Gray) Carter.

She was a member of the Union Congregational Church of Ellsworth Falls and a choir member for several years. She was a member of the Isaac E. Clewley VFW Post 4917 Auxiliary of Brewer until she transferred to the Ellsworth Post No. 109 Auxiliary in 1965. She was past member of the Blue Hill Mountain Rebekah Lodge No. 87.

Marion was devoted to her family and is survived by her devoted son, Walter J. Saunders Sr. and his wife, Jackie, of Ellsworth; two grandsons, Walter J. Saunders Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Blue Hill and Bradley J. Saunders and his wife, Robyn, of Surry; a granddaughter, Theresa Clark of Ellsworth; a great-grandson, Christopher James Saunders of Blue Hill; a devoted sister, Elsie A. Gould and her husband, Richard, of Brooklin; two brothers, Linwood L. Carter and his wife, Geraldine, and Gordon F. Carter and wife, Edna, all of Blue Hill; two brothers-in-law, Gordon G. Carter and his wife, Corinne, of Surry and Gailen Carter and his wife, Sibyl, of Georgia; a special cousin and best friend, Barbara Tuozzo of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a special niece, Nannette Lake of Augusta; many other nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved very much. She will be remembered by a wonderful and precious friend, Paula Allen of Blue Hill, who had been like a granddaughter. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Willard E. Carter in 1993; a brother, Pearl H. Carter and his wife, Marilyn; two brothers-in-law, Jarvis V. Carter and James E. Carter; and her first husband, Elmore F. Saunders. She and her husband, Willard, will also be remembered for their special feline friend and constant companion, Mittie, who was loved greatly by them both.

A funeral service was held Nov. 16, 1999, at the Union Congregational Church, Ellsworth Falls, with the Rev. Pat Butler officiating. Interment was at the Village Cemetery, Surry. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Union Congregational Church, P.O. Box 997, Ellsworth 04605.
