It was sad, but it had to be. A Superior Court judge on Wednesday morning sentenced former Ellsworth High School janitor Frank Trundy, 53, to three years in prison for drug trafficking at the high school. Trundy had pleaded guilty. It’s our lead story today. We’ve also got a complete report on plans to construct a nursing home — the town’s first — in Bucksport. It means 60-70 good-paying jobs and the provision of a service much needed. Win-win! Speaking of winning: Check out the jubilation photo of the Ellsworth High School cheerleaders as they learn they are No. 1! The girls took first among 14 teams in the Eastern Maine Class B Cheering Championships on Saturday in Bangor. And they had to overcome two last-minute injuries to two of their fliers. It was nothing short of heroic. We bid a respectful farewell to Charles Yeo, longtime Eastbrook selectman, who was something of a legend for his unambiguous stands on issues affecting his town. He won’t be hard to replace — he’ll be impossible to replace. Page 1. And we have the county spelling bee, student chess, the “i resolve” workout of the week, a preview of the Camden Conference (streamed live to The Grand), our wonderful Health Quarterly section, cops, courts, Cooking with Diabetes, GOP caucus dates in Hancock County, Letters to the Editor, a movie review, a wine review and a Bangor Symphony Orchestra review. All in this week’s American ... The Ellsworth American ... serving the community till America drinks Canada dry. |
