The Emmaus Homeless Shelter in Ellsworth this week observes 20 years of “serving first those who suffer most.” We’ve got a nice feature that includes an interview with a couple of current guests of the compassionate shelter with the long waiting list. page 1.

Talk about a sentimental journey: Some of the guys up at the Bangor veterans home came to Ellsworth to ride the train. One vet’s wife hadn’t been on a train in 70 years. And one of the vets had never been on a train ... ever. Page 1.

That voluntary resignations program undertaken at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital saved more than $400,000 and prevented layoffs. Win-win. Page 1.
