The July 8th Issue of The American

Written by Stephen Fay; Managing Editor

Maine Coast Memorial Hospital's new CEO started work this week. He was good enough to drop by The Ellsworth American and share his thoughts on Maine, the health care industry, health care reform, malpractice reform (not!), small towns, working with other hospitals and the Yankees (didn't sound like he was a fan). Get to know Charlie Therrien, his wife and their two grown kids in this week's Ellsworth American.

We were surprised to learn that the young man charged with the stabbing murders of three people in Northern Maine grew up in and around Ellsworth. We talked to classmates of Thayne Ormsby (EHS Class of 2008) and family friends who recall a "sweet" boy who came from a tough background and made a number of regrettable choices. The story's on Page 1.

John Whight, an organic gardener is Waltham, shares his techniques for getting the most out of everything — from chicken bones to methane gas from the toilet. All ye who seek the simple life will want to read "Waste Not, Want Not" in this week's EA.

All this plus a touching memorial for a lobsterman who lost his life last week, Fourth of July photos,  a complete District Court roundup, the Little League All-stars games and a trip to the Y's summer camp. This week in The Ellsworth American!
